Darwin Cargua, 25, was killed in a hit-and-run crash early on New Year’s Day in the Corona neighborhood of Queens, authorities confirmed.

A growing memorial of flowers and candles marked the spot on 102nd Street where Cargua was struck and fatally injured. Officials said he and another man were walking home after attending a New Year’s Eve celebration when they were hit by a white SUV.

The second victim, identified as Luis Romero, was also struck during the incident and suffered critical injuries. Friday marked Romero’s 25th birthday as he remained hospitalized.

Investigators said both men were Ecuadorian immigrants. After the crash, the driver of the SUV fled the scene without stopping.

Police continue to search for the driver involved in the deadly hit-and-run as the investigation remains ongoing.
