Desmond Tyrelo Cruell was killed in a shooting early on New Year’s Day at 2368 US 441 South in Sylva, North Carolina. Law enforcement said the incident followed an altercation, and Cruell was found with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Mission Hospital but succumbed to his injuries en route.

Kristopher Alexander Tutt, 30, has been charged with murder in connection with the shooting and is being held without bond. During his initial court appearance, Tutt declined an appointed public defender, stating he would hire his own attorney.
