Fatal Salinas, California train crash death of Tracy Abanathie – Obituary

Tracy Abanathie, 46, of Salinas, was killed on New Year’s Day after being struck by an Amtrak train. The accident occurred around 6:15 p.m. near 1500 Abbott Street, according to Salinas police.

Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the crash, and an investigation is ongoing. Abanathie was pronounced dead at the scene.

This incident marks at least the third fatal train collision in Salinas over the past year. Previous deaths involved a person hit near Front Street and Alisal Street in July 2025, and another individual struck near East Market Street and Front Street in September 2025.
