Robert Randall, a 67-year-old New Bedford resident, lost his life after being struck by a vehicle at a busy city intersection on Friday evening. The deadly incident unfolded just days after another pedestrian was killed nearby while crossing the street following a New Year’s Eve church service, heightening community concern over roadway safety.

Authorities said the collision occurred around 5 p.m. at the junction of Route 6 and Pleasant Street. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but Randall succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

According to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, the driver involved stopped immediately and attempted to assist Randall before first responders arrived. Officials have not indicated whether criminal charges will be pursued, noting that the investigation remains ongoing.

As investigators work to determine the circumstances that led to the crash, New Bedford police announced stepped-up enforcement efforts during evening hours. The initiative targets speeding, failure to obey traffic signals and stop signs, distracted driving, and violations involving pedestrians.
