William Rexford, 24, of Fairbanks, Alaska, was killed Thursday morning during an officer-involved shooting involving Alaska State Troopers. The fatal incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. at a family residence in Fairbanks.
According to a trooper dispatch report, authorities were called to the home after receiving reports that Rexford was damaging property. Troopers said he was believed to be experiencing a mental health crisis at the time and had made statements indicating he was suicidal.
Officials stated that Rexford charged toward responding troopers while armed with a knife, which led to the officer-involved shooting. Rexford was pronounced dead as a result of the encounter. Another individual was seriously injured during the incident, though additional details about that person were not released.
