Marcos Almeida was found fatally shot inside a residence on Chicago’s South Side early Saturday morning, marking the city’s first known homicide of 2026. The deadly shooting occurred in the South Shore neighborhood.

Police said the 51-year-old was discovered unresponsive inside a home in the 6700 block of South Jeffery Boulevard just before 9:30 a.m. Responding officers found that Almeida had suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the chest, head, and back.

Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office later confirmed his identity as Marcos Almeida.

Investigators have not released details about what may have led to the shooting. No suspects have been taken into custody, and authorities said Area One detectives are continuing to investigate the homicide.

Officials indicated that additional information will be provided as the investigation progresses.
