Fatal Birmingham shooting death of Morgan Brown – Obituary
Morgan Brown, a 33-year-old father, was killed Saturday evening in Birmingham in what authorities say was a robbery that turned deadly, marking the city’s first homicide of the new year.
Police confirmed that a 15-year-old has been arrested and charged with capital murder during a robbery, along with an additional charge for unlawful possession of a firearm. Two other individuals are also in custody and are being held while investigators prepare formal charges, according to Birmingham Police Sgt. LaQuitta Wade.
Officers from the East Precinct were called to the 8000 block of First Avenue South in the South East Lake neighborhood just before 5 p.m. after reports of a shooting. When police arrived, they discovered Brown unresponsive inside a vehicle parked at an apartment complex. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced him dead at the scene.
Investigators believe Brown may have been acquainted with the people involved or had gone to the location to meet someone. Police noted that the area where he was found is relatively secluded.
Early findings suggest Brown was robbed and then shot by the suspects, who fled immediately after the attack. All three suspects were located and taken into custody shortly afterward.
Family members described Brown as a devoted and caring father who cherished his young daughter. Loved ones said he was known for his kindness and deep affection for his child.
Police expressed sympathy for the family, noting the painful significance of the case being Birmingham’s first homicide of 2026. Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing as they work to finalize charges against the remaining suspects.
