Fatal Uniondale, New York hit-and-run crash death of Cross Kim Young – Obituary

A 75-year-old Uniondale resident lost his life Saturday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle that initially fled the scene, Nassau County police confirmed.

Authorities identified the victim as Cross Kim Young, who was fatally injured around 3:19 p.m. while attempting to cross Maple Avenue at the intersection of Hempstead Boulevard in Uniondale.

Detectives said Young was hit by a 2009 Jeep Wrangler as he crossed the roadway. He sustained critical injuries in the collision and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the Jeep left the area immediately after the crash, prompting a hit-and-run investigation. Following police work, officers later located and arrested Cesar Manzo, 71, also of Uniondale.

Manzo was charged with leaving the scene of an incident involving a death. Police said he was arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead as the case moves forward through the judicial process.
