Fatal Gwinnett County shooting death of Cesar Tejada – Obituary

Cesar Tejada, 58, of Lawrenceville, was killed on New Year’s Day in a suspected carjacking, authorities confirmed. Tejada, an Uber driver, had left for work early in the morning, never realizing it would be his final trip.

Lawrenceville police reported that 15-year-old Christian Simmons of Lilburn is accused of fatally attacking Tejada after being dropped off at his destination. Ring camera footage showed a black SUV arriving around 4:30 a.m., the trunk opening, and the driver exiting before leaving Tejada on the street. Video from about 15 minutes later captured the vehicle returning and stopping next to Tejada’s body.

Simmons was arrested a few hours after the incident. Tejada’s wife described him as “an exemplary man” who worked hard to provide for his family. The investigation remains active.
