Fatal Woodburn car crash death of Maria Mejia-Romero – Obituary

Maria Mejia-Romero, 49, of Woodburn, died after being struck by a vehicle Sunday afternoon at an intersection in the city, according to police.

The crash happened at about 2:22 p.m. on January 4 near the intersection of Mt. Hood Avenue and Park Avenue. Woodburn police officers arriving at the scene found Mejia-Romero suffering from life-threatening injuries after being hit by a car. She was taken to Salem Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Investigators said early findings indicate Mejia-Romero was crossing Mt. Hood Avenue outside of a marked crosswalk when the collision occurred. Witnesses reported that the driver was making a right turn onto Mt. Hood Avenue at the time of the crash.

Police identified the vehicle involved as a 2007 Ford F-150 driven by a 16-year-old Woodburn resident. Authorities said the driver remained at the scene and fully cooperated with investigators.

According to officials, preliminary evidence suggests the incident was accidental, and no citations or criminal charges are expected at this time. The investigation remains ongoing, and police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has additional information to contact the Woodburn Police Department and reference case number 26-137.
