Fatal Columbia car crash death of Malcolm D. Johnson – Obituary

Malcolm D. Johnson, 29, of Columbia, South Carolina, was killed Sunday night in a crash caused by an allegedly impaired driver, authorities confirmed.

The collision occurred near the intersection of Gervais Street and Park Street when Randall Miller, 29, reportedly ran a stoplight while driving under the influence, striking Johnson and a woman in a crosswalk. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Coroner Naida Rutherford described Johnson’s death as a heartbreaking tragedy, expressing sympathy for his family, friends, and the broader community affected by the loss.

Miller has been charged in connection with the crash and is being held at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center without bond. Officials said the investigation into the circumstances of the incident remains ongoing.
