Fatal Grand Forks County shooting death of Titan Newton – Obituary

Titan Newton, 23, of Oregon, has been identified as the man who died following a vehicle pursuit and crash near Grand Forks, North Dakota, after what authorities described as an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the incident began around 5:39 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 2, when dispatchers received a 911 call reporting an erratic driver in Grand Forks County. A trooper located Newton driving a 2024 Toyota Corolla on Interstate 29 near mile marker 138, south of Grand Forks.

Officials said Newton stopped his vehicle before the trooper activated emergency lights for a traffic stop. When the trooper approached and asked him to exit the car, Newton refused and fled the scene. A short pursuit followed, lasting about one mile, before the vehicle became stuck in the median.

Newton was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators determined his death resulted from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Interstate 29 was temporarily closed following the incident and later reopened to limited traffic.

Multiple agencies responded, including the Grand Forks Police Department, the Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office, and the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation, which is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
