Fatal Lafayette multi-vehicle crash deaths of Cherita Washington, Chase Washington, and Joseph Prejean – Obituary
The Lafayette community is mourning after a tragic collision early Tuesday morning claimed three lives at the intersection of Johnston Street and E Broussard Road. Authorities identified the victims as 36-year-old Cherita Washington and 17-year-old Chase Washington, both from Duson, along with 21-year-old Joseph Prejean of Lafayette. A fourth person involved was hospitalized and is in stable condition.
Police reported that a preliminary investigation suggests a westbound vehicle traveling at a high speed on E Broussard Road struck another car that had stopped at a red light, preparing to turn onto Johnston Street. The collision pushed that vehicle into a third car waiting to turn onto E Broussard Road. The speeding vehicle then continued through the intersection and struck a wooden electrical pole. All three victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Lafayette Police Department Traffic Unit continues its investigation, while the community has expressed condolences and support for the families, especially the Washington family and the Lafayette High School community.
