A 30-year-old Sterling man, Conner Peltzer, died Tuesday morning after being shot by deputies in the parking lot of the Leesburg Walmart. The incident occurred at 11:39 a.m. when Loudoun County deputies, detectives, and FBI agents located Peltzer, who was wanted in connection with a Monday robbery attempt at the Bank of America in Dulles Crossing.
According to the sheriff’s office, as deputies approached, Peltzer exited his vehicle with a firearm, prompting officers to open fire. Deputies immediately provided aid, and Peltzer was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. No law enforcement personnel were harmed.
Authorities noted that during the previous day’s attempted robbery, Peltzer had threatened to use explosives. The sheriff’s office internal affairs department will investigate the shooting, following standard protocol for deputy-involved incidents.
