Fatal Spartanburg County hit-and-run death of Dane Josephine Waddell – Obituary

Dane Josephine Waddell, a 31-year-old woman from Spartanburg, was killed in a hit-and-run crash early Wednesday morning, just months after becoming a mother. The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies responded to a call about a person down in a parking lot on Whitney Road shortly before 3:30 a.m., finding Waddell deceased upon arrival.

According to the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office, Waddell had given birth to a baby girl in October 2025. Investigators determined that she had been struck and dragged by a vehicle, with her death occurring at 3:35 a.m.

Authorities are treating the incident as a hit-and-run. Security camera footage has provided information about the type of vehicle involved, but the driver has not yet been located. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
