Jacob Patchen dies in fatal South Bend shooting

Fatal South Bend shooting death of Jacob Patchen – Obituary

Jacob Patchen, 21, of South Bend, was shot and killed while in his vehicle at the intersection of Michigan Street and Angela Boulevard just north of downtown on Sunday evening, January 12, 2026.

Police responded around 7:20 p.m. and found Patchen inside his car with a gunshot wound. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the South Bend Police Department, Patchen was driving east on Angela Boulevard when he was shot from outside the vehicle. A juvenile passenger in the car was unharmed. The Violent Crimes Unit is investigating the incident, including possible motives, and no arrests have been reported.
