Fatal Philadelphia Chipotle shooting death of Khyon Smith-Tate – Obituary

Khyon Smith-Tate, 16, of North Hutchinson Street in Philadelphia, was found shot to death inside a bathroom at a Chipotle restaurant near Temple University on Monday, January 12, 2026.

Philadelphia police said the teen was discovered by a restaurant employee around 5:15 p.m. Smith-Tate had been shot in the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators reported finding a spent shell casing, indicating at least one shot was fired from a semi-automatic weapon.

Authorities are searching for three possible suspects, all believed to be 16 or 17 years old, and no arrests have been made.

The incident occurred on the first day back from winter break at Temple University, with the restaurant crowded at the time.
