Fatal Richmond crash death of Valerie Smith – Obituary

A 62-year-old woman, Valerie Smith, was tragically killed after being struck by a vehicle in Richmond on Saturday evening. The incident occurred at approximately 7:40 p.m. on January 10th at the intersection of Maury and East 19th streets. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found Smith lying in the road, unresponsive. She was promptly transported to a nearby hospital but later succumbed to her injuries.

According to the Richmond Police Department’s Crash Team, Smith was walking northbound on East 19th Street and was attempting to cross Maury Street at a designated crosswalk when she was hit by a vehicle traveling westbound on Maury. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene, and no charges have been filed at this time.
