Fatal Edison, New Jersey shooting death of Justice Deas – Obituary

A 17-year-old boy from Plainfield is accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend, Justice Deas, at her home in Edison early Saturday morning. The tragic incident occurred around 1 a.m. on January 10, 2026. Authorities say the suspect was arrested at the scene and charged with acts of juvenile delinquency, though his identity has not been disclosed due to his age. Had he been an adult, he would have faced charges of aggravated manslaughter and weapons offenses.

Deas, 17, was found suffering from a gunshot wound and was declared dead at the scene. The shooting was confirmed to be domestic in nature and not a random act of violence, with the two having been in a relationship.

Deas’ friend, Leila Martinez, recalled how Justice had always been there for her in times of need, offering support when she had no one else. In a heartbreaking tribute, Martinez shared how important Deas had been to her.

The shooting came just hours after another teenager fatally shot a 17-year-old boy in Sayreville, Middlesex County, adding to the region’s overnight violence. Both incidents highlight an alarming trend of teen-related killings in the area.
