Fatal St. Bernard Parish river recovery death of Damien Godchaux Jr. – Obituary

Authorities have confirmed that the body recovered from the Mississippi River earlier this month belongs to 23-year-old Damien Godchaux Jr., a man with special needs who had been missing since December.

The St. Bernard Parish Coroner’s Office confirmed the identity of Godchaux Jr. on Tuesday, revealing that his body was pulled from the river on January 7 near St. Bernard Parish.

Godchaux Jr. was last seen on the evening of December 21, around 7 p.m., near the intersection of General Meyer Avenue and Ernest Street. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a black T-shirt with the words “Grand Scratch” on the back, blue sweatpants, and black Crocs.

Authorities, including Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams, have stated that there is no suspicion of criminal involvement in Godchaux’s disappearance. “This is not a criminal investigation. This is just an emergency,” Williams clarified in a previous press conference.

The coroner’s office has yet to release a definitive cause or manner of death, and authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Godchaux’s tragic end.
