Virginia State Police are looking into a deadly traffic incident that claimed the life of a 91-year-old man in Alleghany County. Authorities said the crash involved only one vehicle and occurred along Interstate 64.
According to investigators, the collision happened Tuesday at about 11:16 a.m. on the eastbound side of I-64 near the 1.1-mile marker. A 2017 Subaru Crosstrek was traveling east when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The car crossed the median, continued through the westbound lanes, and ultimately struck a guardrail.
State police identified the driver as Billy Jack Camden, 91, a resident of Covington. Troopers said Camden was properly restrained with a seatbelt at the time of the crash. He was transported to LewisGale Alleghany Hospital for treatment but later succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, and no additional details have been released by Virginia State Police.
