Fatal Fox Lake, Illinois car crash death of Linda Thompson – Obituary
Linda Thompson, a 78-year-old Fox Lake resident, died after being found unresponsive following a two-vehicle crash at a busy intersection in Fox Lake. The collision occurred Friday morning at East Grand Avenue and Rollins Road and led to a prolonged road closure as authorities investigated the scene.
Emergency crews from the Fox Lake Fire Protection District and Fox Lake Police Department were dispatched around 7:17 a.m. after reports of a crash with injuries. Responders arrived to find a Lexus SUV with heavy damage stopped in the intersection and a Chrysler Town and Country minivan off the roadway after crashing into nearby trees.
Investigators said Thompson was driving the Chrysler westbound on Rollins Road when she rear-ended the Lexus, which was stopped at a red light. Officials believe Thompson suffered a medical emergency that caused her to lose control of the vehicle before the collision.
Police officers forced entry into the minivan and discovered Thompson was not breathing. She was removed from the vehicle, and lifesaving efforts, including CPR, were initiated before she was transported in critical condition to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The McHenry County Coroner identified Thompson and confirmed that an autopsy was performed, though preliminary results were inconclusive and toxicology findings are pending. Authorities said Thompson was the only occupant of her vehicle. Two juveniles inside the Lexus were evaluated by paramedics and released to their parents at the scene.
The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team assisted with the investigation, and the intersection reopened later that morning. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
