Marcus Anthony Anderson, 33, of Kalamazoo, was killed during a shooting that occurred early Saturday morning at an apartment complex in Kalamazoo Township, authorities confirmed.

Police said the incident happened on Jan. 10 at a party held at Wildwood Off Main Apartments, located at 200 Lake Forest Boulevard, near Western Michigan University’s main campus. Officers were called to the scene after reports of an altercation between two individuals escalated into gunfire.

According to investigators, witnesses told police the suspect fled the apartment complex immediately after the shooting in a vehicle. Shortly afterward, officers were notified of a separate crash on West Main Street involving the suspect, who struck another motorist before fleeing again.

Police later located the suspect’s abandoned vehicle and arrested the 28-year-old after a brief foot pursuit. The suspect is now in custody as detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Anderson’s death.

Kalamazoo Township Police Chief Bryan Ergang confirmed Anderson’s identity on Wednesday, Jan. 14. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional details are expected to be released as the case progresses.
