Shafiq Noorani, 52, an experienced climber from Aurora, was killed on New Year’s Eve after falling near Citadel Peak above the Eisenhower Tunnel in Clear Creek County, Colorado. His family remembered him as a compassionate philanthropist who dedicated his life to helping others around the world.

The fatal incident occurred around 2 p.m. on Dec. 31, when Noorani’s climbing partner, a woman who has not been publicly identified, reported that he fell several hundred feet while ascending a technical climbing route at approximately 13,000 feet. Emergency responders, including the volunteer Alpine Rescue Team, were dispatched after the partner called 911 from the cliffside.

Rescue officials said both climbers appeared experienced and well-equipped, and the route was considered appropriate for their skill level. Family members spoke of Noorani’s generosity and kind-hearted nature, noting the wide-reaching impact of his 52 years. The investigation into the accident is ongoing, as authorities continue to gather details surrounding the tragic event.
