Fatal Fremont motorcycle crash death of Andrew Barrett Mackenzie – Obituary

A 49-year-old motorcyclist, Andrew Barrett Mackenzie of San Jose, tragically died Monday afternoon in Fremont following a collision with a pickup truck. The crash occurred on Cushing Parkway when Mackenzie attempted to squeeze between the truck and a construction zone.

According to the Fremont Police Department, as the traffic light turned green for eastbound vehicles, Mackenzie accelerated to pass the truck on the passenger side.

However, the limited space due to the construction zone led him to strike traffic cones before attempting to merge into the #1 lane. The collision caused Mackenzie to lose control of his motorcycle, and he fell to the ground, where he was struck by the rear passenger tire of the truck.

Despite wearing a helmet, Mackenzie sustained severe injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he died about an hour later. The pickup truck driver, who was uninjured, remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.

At this time, police do not believe drug or alcohol impairment played a role in the crash. The incident is under investigation, and this marks the second fatal traffic incident in Fremont this year.
