Fatal Town of Cornwall, New York car crash death of Juan Sumba – Obituary

Juan Sumba, a 47-year-old man from Queens, was killed Tuesday night after being struck by a vehicle in the Town of Cornwall, according to local authorities.

Police said the incident occurred at approximately 8:38 p.m. along Angola Road, near the area of 186 Angola Road. Officers were dispatched after the Orange County 911 Center received reports of a pedestrian being hit by a car.

Following an investigation at the scene, authorities determined that a 2011 Toyota RAV4 traveling southbound on Angola Road struck Sumba. The vehicle was driven by 79-year-old Ira Margolis of Highland Mills.

Emergency medical personnel transported Sumba to St. Luke’s Hospital in Newburgh for treatment. Despite life-saving efforts, he later died from his injuries.

Officials stated that the driver remained at the scene and cooperated fully with investigators. At this time, police have indicated that no criminal activity is suspected, though the investigation remains ongoing.

Multiple agencies assisted with the response, including Cornwall EMS, New Windsor EMS, the Cornwall Fire Department, the Village of Cornwall on Hudson Police Department, and the New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.
