Nakita Kim Smith, a 51-year-old woman from Gause, Texas, was killed in a collision involving a pickup truck while riding a bicycle in Milam County, according to state officials.

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers said the crash occurred on the evening of Wednesday, January 7, along US Highway 190, about a tenth of a mile west of County Road 215A. Investigators reported that a 2006 Chevrolet pickup was traveling westbound when it struck Smith, who was riding her bicycle in the same lane of travel.

Authorities determined that low-light conditions contributed to the driver’s inability to see the bicyclist before the impact. Smith suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup truck remained at the location after the crash and cooperated fully with law enforcement during the investigation. No additional injuries were reported.

Officials said the incident remains under investigation, and a finalized crash report will be made available through the Texas Department of Public Safety once the review is complete.
