Fatal Manhattan, Illinois school bus crash death of Makenna M. Maurisak – Obituary

Makenna M. Maurisak, a 24-year-old woman from Manhattan, Illinois, was identified as the driver who lost her life in a collision involving a school bus in the south suburbs, authorities confirmed.

Police said the fatal crash occurred Thursday morning around 8:32 a.m. on Manhattan-Monee Road, between School House Road and Scheer Road, near Kankakee Road.

Illinois State Police reported that a school bus carrying ten Manhattan School District students and a bus driver was traveling eastbound when it was involved in a head-on collision with a passenger vehicle. Maurisak, who was driving the passenger car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Manhattan police stated that all students and the bus driver were transported to nearby hospitals as a precaution. Officials emphasized that no one on the bus suffered serious injuries.

Several of those involved were taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, where medical staff conducted evaluations to rule out potential injuries.

Hospital officials explained that while many patients appeared to have only minor issues, thorough examinations were necessary to check for possible fractures, head injuries, or concussions. Emotional support was also provided to both children and their families.
