Brianna Burkett, 28, of Charleston, South Carolina, was killed early Saturday morning in a targeted shooting on Tripe Street in West Ashley, authorities confirmed. Charleston police responded around 12:30 a.m. and found Burkett inside a car in the roadway, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

Antonio Jamal Kelly, 33, of Charleston, was arrested in connection with the shooting and faces charges of murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. Police reported that Burkett and Kelly had previously been in a romantic relationship and that she was specifically targeted; there is no indication the attack was random.

Kelly was located in Jacksonville, Florida, and taken into custody by Charleston authorities with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service. He is being held pending extradition to South Carolina.
