Norman Joseph Heim, 76, was killed Thursday, Jan. 15, after being struck by a fleeing vehicle in Rives Township, north of Jackson.

Jackson County authorities reported the incident occurred around 9:36 p.m. on Lansing Avenue near South Oak Creek Drive. Heim, a Vietnam War veteran and longtime truck driver, was hit by a car that left the scene at high speed before police arrived. No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains active.

Heim graduated from Napoleon High School in 1968 and served as a sergeant in the Army during the Vietnam War. His family is planning funeral services on Thursday, Jan. 22, at Eineder Funeral Homes – Brooklyn Chapel, with an additional gathering on Friday, Jan. 23, followed by a burial with military honors at Oak Grove Cemetery in Napoleon Township.
