Authorities have identified the man killed in a hit-and-run incident on a bike path in Vista as Maxwell Frederick Rouette, 27.
The incident occurred Sunday morning along the Inland Rail Trail near 1923 Buena Creek Road. California Highway Patrol officials reported that 38-year-old Jessica Boykin was driving a black Toyota RAV4 west on West Mission Road in San Marcos when, for unknown reasons, she left the roadway and drove onto the bike path for approximately four miles, ultimately striking Rouette, who was walking along the path.
Rouette was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple blunt force injuries. Boykin was later apprehended nearby and faces several charges, including felony hit-and-run, driving under the influence, and homicide. She is being held without bail at the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility.
