Fatal Steubenville, Ohio car incident deaths of Luke Reimer and Mary Mich – Obituary
Luke Reimer, 20, and Mary Mich, 20, students at Franciscan University of Steubenville, were found deceased earlier this week inside a vehicle on the university’s campus. The discovery was made Monday, January 19, in the rear parking lot of St. Agnes Hall, prompting an outpouring of grief from the campus community.
Steubenville police said officers were called to 1505 University Boulevard around 12:30 p.m. to conduct a welfare check on two individuals inside a parked car. Upon arrival, officers found a male and female unresponsive inside the vehicle and confirmed both had died at the scene. Investigators reported no evidence of foul play or drug involvement.
According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, toxicology results determined that Reimer and Mich died from carbon monoxide poisoning. Authorities stated the deaths were accidental and likely caused by a malfunction related to the vehicle’s exhaust system.
University officials later identified the victims as Luke Reimer of Indian Shores, Florida, and Mary Mich of Downingtown, Pennsylvania. In a message to students and staff, the university’s president expressed sorrow over the tragic loss and extended condolences to the families, friends, and classmates affected by the incident.
