Fatal Esopus, New York car crash death of Jennifer L. Burke – Obituary

Jennifer L. Burke, a 63-year-old resident of Port Ewen, lost her life following a head-on vehicle collision that occurred early Wednesday morning along state Route 9W in the Town of Esopus, according to New York State Police.

Authorities said the crash happened around 6:15 a.m. on January 21, when Burke was driving a 2009 Smart car northbound near 1835 Route 9W. For reasons that have not yet been determined, her vehicle crossed over the center line into the southbound lane and collided directly with a 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan.

The other vehicle was operated by 49-year-old Russell B. Stevens of West Park. Police reported that the impact caused Burke to be ejected from her car. She was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.

Stevens was transported to Vassar Brothers Medical Center, where he was treated for injuries that were described as not life-threatening. Investigators confirmed that no passengers were inside either vehicle at the time of the collision.
