Fatal Copper Mountain ski crash death of Eric Battjes – Obituary

Eric Battjes, 44, of Stillwater, Minnesota, died Friday after a skiing accident at Copper Mountain Resort in Colorado.

According to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, Battjes lost control on the American Flyer run and collided forcefully with a tree. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Copper Mountain Ski Patrol responded, performed lifesaving measures, and transported him to the CommonSpirit Emergency and Urgent Care facility near the base of the mountain, where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses saw the accident, but no one else was involved. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
