Authorities have confirmed the identity of a man who lost his life after a collision involving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 44 in Springfield early Thursday morning. The victim was identified as 48-year-old Wesley Osborne, a resident of Springfield.

Emergency dispatchers received multiple 911 calls shortly after 1 a.m. reporting a person struck by a large truck in the westbound lanes of I-44 near the U.S. 65 North exit.

Officers with the Springfield Police Department’s traffic unit responded to the scene and conducted an extensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. As a result, westbound lanes of Interstate 44 were closed and traffic was rerouted onto U.S. 65 for more than five hours.

No additional details about the incident have been released, and the investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
