Fatal San Jose shootout death of Mohamed Husien – Obituary
30-year-old Mohamed Husien of Davis was identified as the suspect who died in a shootout with San Jose police officers on Wednesday. Husien’s fatal encounter with the police followed an armed carjacking earlier that day, according to the San Jose Police Department.
The incident began when police responded to a carjacking at a dealership on the 900 block of Capitol Expressway. Husien allegedly entered the business with a firearm and stole a vehicle at gunpoint. Police pursued him for two hours, during which he had an earlier exchange of gunfire with the Hollister Police Department in San Benito County. The suspect then crashed into another vehicle at Julian and 87th streets, before exiting and engaging in a shootout with San Jose officers.
A police sergeant was injured in the exchange, suffering a gunshot wound to the head, but is expected to survive. Several civilians were caught in the crossfire during the incident, which took place near downtown San Jose. San Jose Police Chief Paul Joseph described the event as resembling an action movie, and Vice Mayor Pam Foley expressed concern for the injured officer during a press conference.
Husien was attempting to flee in another stolen vehicle when he was struck by a police car and declared dead at the scene. Police stated that Husien appeared prepared for a violent confrontation with law enforcement.
