Fatal Prairie Township crash death of Jackie Knapp – Obituary
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office has identified 65-year-old Jackie Knapp of Grove City as the victim of a fatal two-vehicle crash in Prairie Township on January 20. Knapp was ejected from his vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash occurred at approximately 9:17 p.m. when Knapp, driving a 2017 GMC Sierra, was attempting to turn south onto Darby Creek Drive from U.S. 40. At the same time, 17-year-old Eduard Sakhniuk of Galloway was driving a 2014 Cadillac CTS eastbound on U.S. 40 and struck the GMC on its passenger side. The impact caused the Cadillac to leave the roadway, crashing through a fence and into a field. The GMC spun around and ended up backwards in the eastbound lanes.
Knapp was ejected from the GMC following the crash. Despite efforts by first responders, he was pronounced dead at 9:34 p.m. The passenger in the GMC was critically injured and transported to the hospital but later stabilized. The crash report notes that Knapp was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and further details have not been released.
