Michael Alan Smith, 54, was critically injured on January 27, 2026, in an officer-involved shooting outside a Truist Bank in Orange City, Florida. Police responded to reports of a suspicious individual walking along Enterprise Road when Smith, carrying a knife and bleeding, attempted to enter the bank. Authorities stated that Smith was shot after he ignored commands from an officer.

Capt. Jason Ward confirmed that Smith is in stable condition following the shooting. Smith had a prior citation from March 2023 for driving with a suspended license, to which he pleaded no contest. The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave while the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigates the incident.
