Fatal Dallas, Texas shooting death of Wornan Padilla Garcia – Obituary

Wornan Padilla Garcia, 18, a senior and soccer player at Woodrow Wilson High School, was killed on Jan. 22 during a shooting at Willis C. Winters Park near the school in East Dallas. Authorities said the incident involved a firearm that discharged while students were handling it.

Garcia was taken to a local hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. A student from the same high school is in custody in connection with the shooting. Police have not released the suspect’s name.

Students at Woodrow Wilson High School were placed on temporary lockdown while law enforcement investigated. Dallas ISD confirmed additional patrols will be present on campus following the incident. Officers focused their investigation on a small black vehicle in the park’s parking lot where the shooting occurred.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of Garcia.
