Fatal Estabrook Park shooting death of Renesia Thompson – Obituary
Renesia Thompson, 29, was fatally shot at Estabrook Park in Shorewood on March 6, 2026. Authorities found her in a vehicle at the park with a gunshot wound to the head and pronounced her dead shortly after the discovery.
Milwaukee County law enforcement identified the suspect as 28-year-old Jalun Malik Cotton, who was later found deceased at his residence from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on March 7. Investigators confirmed that the firearm used by Cotton in his death was the same weapon used in the homicide.
Initial reports indicate that a 911 caller reported hearing a dispute between a man and woman at the park, followed by gunfire. Sheriff’s deputies and Shorewood police responded and discovered Thompson in the vehicle. Law enforcement continues to gather evidence connecting Cotton to the victim and the crime scene, and the medical examiner is conducting Thompson’s autopsy.
