Fatal Denton, Texas police shooting death of Adrian Edward Guevara – Obituary
Authorities have identified the man who died following a police-involved shooting in Denton as 25-year-old Adrian Edward Guevara, a resident of the city.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that Adrian Edward Guevara died from gunshot wounds and ruled the manner of death a homicide. Officials with the Denton Police Department also verified that Guevara lived in Denton.
According to police, the incident occurred Sunday at the Denton Tennis and Pickleball Center located inside North Lakes Park on Riney Road. Officers were dispatched to the area around 12:10 p.m. after multiple 911 callers reported an intoxicated man climbing a fence while holding a metal rod and requested a welfare check.
When officers arrived, investigators say Guevara confronted them and allegedly told them they would have to kill him. Police claim he threatened the officers while still holding the metal rod.
Officers attempted to calm the situation through verbal de-escalation, according to the department. However, authorities say Guevara climbed down from the fence and ran toward the officers with the rod.
One officer deployed a Taser in an effort to stop him, but police said the device had no effect. A second officer then fired several shots, striking Guevara multiple times.
Police spokesperson Amy Cunningham said the department does not currently intend to release video from the incident. Meanwhile, the Denton Record-Chronicle submitted a public records request seeking body camera footage from the responding officers.
The shooting remains under investigation.
