Fatal Chicago shooting death of Darwin Tirado – Obituary
A tragic act of violence in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood has claimed the life of 22-year-old Darwin Tirado, leaving loved ones and neighbors grieving. On Saturday evening, relatives, friends, and community members gathered at the 700 block of West Waveland Avenue to honor his memory at the same location where he was fatally wounded.
The deadly incident unfolded around 3:45 a.m. Wednesday near the junction of West Waveland Avenue and North Halsted Street. Tirado was inside a vehicle alongside a 38-year-old man when two individuals approached them. Authorities said the attackers carried out a carjacking and fired shots during the confrontation.
Tirado was struck during the gunfire and later succumbed to his injuries. The other man inside the vehicle was unharmed. After the shooting, the suspects escaped in the stolen car, leaving behind a shaken community.
Tirado was known and respected in the culinary world, having worked at restaurants operated by renowned chef Art Smith. Smith stood alongside Tirado’s family during the vigil, urging that those responsible be brought to justice. Tirado’s mother also shared a professional connection with Smith, having worked with him in the past.
