A Bryan County man has died following a violent sequence that involved a stolen vehicle, a police pursuit, and a suspected double homicide.
Authorities reported that Anthony Andrea Forney was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a high-speed chase Sunday afternoon. The events began around 4 p.m. near Nevils, Georgia, when Forney allegedly stole a truck from a resident who had stopped to help him, believing him to be a stranded motorist.
The truck’s owner tracked the vehicle using a GPS system, alerting dispatchers in Bulloch County. Law enforcement units, including Bulloch County deputies, Bryan County deputies, and Georgia State Patrol troopers, responded as the vehicle moved through Bulloch and into Bryan County.
Forney, driving a gray Toyota Camry, was pursued after being identified as the individual involved in the stolen truck incident. During the chase, the Camry lost control, crashed into a ditch, and flipped over. Officers discovered Forney had fatally shot himself inside the car before the crash.
Meanwhile, deputies investigating the property where Forney had stopped observed the pickup truck from the theft and, upon entering the residence, found the bodies of a married couple who had been shot to death.
Bryan County authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the couple’s deaths and are gathering information from the public regarding this tragic series of events.
