A pedestrian lost his life Sunday evening after being hit by a vehicle along a roadway in West Jordan.

Officers with the West Jordan Police Department responded to the scene near 8600 South and 4000 West at approximately 7:40 p.m. after receiving reports of an auto-pedestrian collision. When they arrived, they discovered a man in his thirties who had been struck by a pickup truck.

The victim, later identified as 38-year-old Darwin Cantarero Zuniga, was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, he died from the injuries he sustained.

Authorities said the driver involved remained at the scene and has been cooperating with investigators. Police also noted that they do not currently suspect alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident.

Investigators added that the stretch of road where the collision occurred has limited lighting and does not have a designated crosswalk.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing as officials continue working to determine the full circumstances.
