A tragic vehicle collision in Gates, New York, claimed the life of a six-month-old infant and left his parents seriously injured.
Authorities identified the baby as Noah Carpenter, who died from injuries after the family’s SUV was struck in a crash on March 5. Noah was traveling with his parents, Jake Carpenter and Kelly Carpenter, when the incident occurred.
Police said the crash happened around 10:15 a.m. at the intersection of Buffalo Road and Howard Road. According to investigators, a black SUV hit the rear of the white SUV that the Carpenter family was riding in while it was stopped at a traffic light.
Emergency responders from the Gates Police Department, Gates Fire Department, and Gates Ambulance arrived at the scene, where both vehicles had sustained heavy damage and occupants were reportedly trapped inside. First responders worked to remove the victims from the wreckage before they were rushed to a hospital for treatment.
Despite medical efforts, Noah Carpenter died at Strong Memorial Hospital due to the injuries he sustained in the collision.
Both of his parents suffered severe injuries in the crash. Kelly Carpenter sustained a traumatic brain injury that required emergency surgery and remains in critical condition. Jake Carpenter suffered a serious injury to his aorta and also underwent emergency surgery, though he is expected to recover.
Officials continue to investigate the circumstances that led to the collision. A fundraiser has been organized to assist the family with medical expenses as they recover from the tragedy.
