Fatal Poplar Grove airplane crash death of Richard C. McClung – Obituary

Officials have confirmed that Richard C. McClung, 83, of Rockford, was the pilot who lost his life after a small aircraft went down in a residential area close to Poplar Grove Airport on February 14. The Boone County Coroner’s Office released his identity following the incident.

A postmortem examination completed on February 17 determined that McClung died from injuries he sustained when the plane crashed. Reports indicated that the accident also caused damage to a nearby home.

Authorities from the Boone County Sheriff’s Department, the Boone County Coroner’s Office, and the National Transportation Safety Board are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
