Fatal Desert Center car crash death of Margarita Mares De Torres – Obituary

Authorities have identified Margarita Mares De Torres, 61, of Greenfield as the woman who died in a rollover crash late Wednesday night along Interstate 10 near the community of Desert Center.

 

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred shortly before 11 p.m. on the eastbound side of Interstate 10, west of Red Cloud Mine Road. Investigators said a 2011 Ford Ranger was traveling at an unknown speed when the vehicle drifted toward the dirt center median and overturned.

 

The pickup truck rolled over and came to rest on its left side. During the crash, De Torres, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from the vehicle.

 

She suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

The driver of the Ford Ranger, a 62-year-old man from Greenfield whose name has not been released, was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident. He sustained minor injuries and was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs for treatment.

 

Officials stated that alcohol or drugs do not appear to have played a role in the crash. The relationship between the driver and De Torres has not been disclosed.

 

Authorities said the cause of the crash remains under investigation and are asking anyone with information to contact investigators at 760-772-5300.
