Fatal Kalamazoo County car crash death of Carl Darrin James – Obituary
Authorities have confirmed that a 49-year-old man lost his life following a late-night collision involving two vehicles in Oshtemo Township. The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office identified the deceased as Carl Darrin James.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:40 p.m. on February 14 along West Main Street near North 10th Street. When emergency crews arrived, they found James unresponsive inside his vehicle. First responders attempted lifesaving measures before transporting him to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Investigators said both vehicles had been traveling westbound when the collision took place. The force of the crash caused one of the vehicles to veer into a parking lot and strike another vehicle that was unoccupied.
The other driver involved was taken to the hospital by ambulance and was reported to be in stable condition.
Officials believe speed may have contributed to the crash, though the investigation remains ongoing. A fundraiser organized by James’ family described him as the primary provider for his loved ones, and donations have been collected to help support them during their loss.
