Fatal Wilmington car crash death of Tacoma Reda and Ofelia Landa – Obituary

Two Wilmington residents lost their lives following a violent collision between a motorcycle and a sport utility vehicle Wednesday afternoon, according to the Wilmington Police Department.

Authorities said 22-year-old Tacoma Reda was operating the motorcycle and died at the scene after the crash, which occurred near 58th Street on Oleander Drive at about 1:45 p.m.

Ofelia Landa, 62, was riding as a passenger in the SUV involved in the crash. She was taken to Novant New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment but later succumbed to her injuries.

Emergency crews temporarily shut down portions of the roadway while they responded and began their investigation. Witnesses told police the motorcycle may have been traveling at speeds estimated between 90 and 100 miles per hour before the collision.

Officials stated that the investigation remains ongoing as they continue working to determine all contributing factors in the deadly incident.
