Fatal Lake Tahoe avalanche death of Kate Vitt – Obituary

Kate Vitt, a Boston College alum, was killed in a deadly avalanche near Lake Tahoe, California. She was among nine skiers reported missing after the avalanche struck Tuesday, with eight confirmed dead and one still unaccounted for.

Vitt was part of a 15-person group on a two-night backcountry trip in the Castle Peak area near Truckee when the avalanche occurred around 11:30 a.m. The group included guides and clients navigating the snowy terrain. Recovery operations have been hampered by whiteout conditions, but efforts to locate and retrieve the victims are expected to continue as weather permits.
